Vagrant cursor is the games blog and musing of Clara Fernández-Vara, a games scholar and developer.
I am an Associate Arts Professor at the NYU Game Center, which is part of the Tisch School or the Arts. Before that, she worked at MIT for six years, one as Visiting Scholar at the Trope Tank and five as Researcher later Postdoctoral Researcher at the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab, both laboratories within Comparative Media Studies.
My main research interest is the study of narrative in games and how it can become integrated with game design, focusing on adventure games. Since my background is in literature and the humanities, I apply methods from textual analysis and performance studies to the study of video games and cross-media artifacts. As a researcher, my goal is to bridge disciplines – humanities and sciences, theory and practice – in order to find ways to innovate and open new ground in video games studies and design.
A lot of my academic work is available online:
You can also play the games I have worked on.
If you can read Spanish, I also have a blog on movies and other media, Crónicas Cinéfilas.
